The family behind ParkThread
It started with one question.
What if we actually did it?
Like a lot of families, we talked about taking a big road trip for years. It always sounded like something we’d do “someday.” Then we started asking ourselves a different question: what if now is actually the best time?
Our kids were young enough to be excited about every new place, campground, hike, and wildlife sighting. We already homeschooled, and we knew that this window wouldn’t stay open forever.
A crazy idea that kept making more sense
The idea started with Kayla. She had always dreamed of seeing more of the country together as a family. Before committing to anything bigger, we took a ten-day trip through the Redwoods and Crater Lake. That trip changed everything.
Kayla was all in from the beginning. I needed spreadsheets. As an engineer, I spent months researching motorhomes, tow vehicles, electrical systems, camping costs, and travel routes. Eventually, the planning came down to this: if we didn’t try, we’d probably spend our lives wondering “what if?”
Meet our family
We’re an ordinary family willing to save, plan, work hard, and take a leap. Kayla keeps five people organized on the road and shares the moments and lessons that don’t always show up on a map. I’m an engineer, a backyard mechanic, and someone who is happiest in the mountains.
What we bring to ParkThread
Our guides and planning tools draw on our family’s firsthand park visits. We only add parks we’ve personally visited. We want to help you spend less time sorting through options and more time enjoying the places you came to see.
Our family adventures continue on Field to Ridge, where we share the broader story of our travels.
Our hope
We hope our kids remember campfires, long drives, wrong turns, rainy hikes, incredible views, and the little moments in between. If our experience helps another family take the trip they’ve been putting off, sharing it is worth it.
